The obligation
Employers registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation must pay wages through the Wage Protection System, an electronic transfer channel that records what each employee was paid and when. Late or missing transfers are visible to the ministry and can restrict a company's ability to issue new work permits; several free zones operate their own equivalent requirement, so which regime applies depends on where the entity is licensed. Payroll also feeds everything downstream — salaries, leave and end-of-service accruals sit in the books as deductible costs, and both your auditor and your Corporate Tax computation depend on those records being right.

- Is WPS mandatory for my company?
- Employers registered with MOHRE must pay wages through the Wage Protection System. Several free zones operate their own equivalent salary-transfer requirement, so the regime that applies depends on where your entity is licensed — we confirm which one covers you before the first pay run.
- When does an employee become entitled to end-of-service gratuity?
- Under the UAE Labour Law, an employee who completes at least one year of continuous service is entitled to end-of-service benefits, calculated on basic wage, with the accrual rate improving after five years of service. The exact figure depends on length of service and the reason employment ended.
- Does payroll affect our Corporate Tax and audit?
- Yes. Salaries and related employment costs are deductible expenses that must be supported by records, and end-of-service and leave accruals affect the reported result. Auditors test payroll against the ledger and the actual transfers, which is why we post the payroll journal into the books each month rather than leaving it to year end.
